About the Gala
The Angel Ball gala was founded in 2007 by Julie & Shane Delaney. The Delaney's have 2 sons, age 6 & 4. The day that their youngest son was born was also the day that some very dear friends of theirs were at the hospital as well. But they were there because their youngest, who was 4 at the time, was being diagnosed with Type 1 Insulin Dependent Juvenile Diabetes. That would be the day that they would begin a very emotional and trying journey. Eight months later, the Delaney's were forced to call the paramedics to their home. After being rushed to the hospital, they learned that their son, who was 8 months old at the time, had suffered from a "grand mal seizure." He would later be diagnosed with an uncommon seizure disorder. Although the last few years have been difficult, they Delaney's are happy to report that their son's seizure are lessening with time and the Doctors say he should grow out of them by the time he is a young adult.
They share that story with you because after having a child stricken with a childhood illness, they deeply understand the emotional heartache and rollercoaster that you face as an individual, as parents, and as a family. With time their son will be ok and should live a fairly uninterrupted life...
That is not the case however for a family dealing with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes.
Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes affects what a child can eat, what physical activities they can participate in, who they can be left alone with...just to name a few things. Can you image, let's say for the next 10 years, never getting to sleep through the night because you have to get up every few hours to check your child's blood sugar level? That is what Type 1 means for a family.

Type 1 Diabetes can not be cured by eating better, exercising more or changing their lifestyle. A child stricken with Tye 1 Diabetes,will have the illness, until they find a cure.
That is why the Delaney's founded the Angel Ball event! They can and will find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes!
